In Memory

Betty Jean Skaggs (Painter)

Betty Painter, 72, passed away peacefully early in the morning on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018, at Community South Hospital.

Betty was born on Thursday, April 25th, 1946, in Martinsville, Indiana, to Ray and Ruth (Parker) Skaggs. She is survived by her children, Jeff Schenck, Doug Schenck and wife Betti, Jeanna Brown and husband Robert, Brian Painter and wife Marcy; brother, Loren “Dick” Skaggs and wife Janice; grandchildren, Michelle Martinkovic and husband Matt, Katie Brown, Mason Brown and wife Kailey, Kaila Painter, Jacob Painter, Tristan Schenck, Parker Schenck, Brent Wampler and Averie Wampler; great grandchildren, Natalie Martinkovic and Mason Martinkovic.  Betty was also survived by Roger Painter, husband for many years and her beloved pup, Gizmo.

Due to her health, Betty retired from a recent career she loved as a bus assistant to special need kids while she lived in both Texas and Oklahoma.  Since being back in Indiana, she enjoyed her time reading, gardening and spending time with family.  One of the highlights last Fall was her being able to attend the Garth Brooks concert while he was in Indianapolis.  She had to have a medical procedure the day before the concert and she told the doctors that if they couldn't get it done early enough, she wouldn't have it done until after the concert as she was not going to miss that concert under any circumstances.

She will be very missed but know she is in a better place and is able to do things she had not be able to do for quite some time due to her health.

As Betty's wishes were to be cremated, her memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14th, 2018 at Costin Funeral Chapel with Rev. Keenan Steinway officiating. A gathering will be one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in her honor.

A special thanks to all the caregivers who gave Betty the best care possible through this health journey.
