Viginia Hamblen (Baker)

Virginia Rose “Dee” Baker, 76, Martinsville, passed from her earthly life on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at IU Health Methodist Hospital. Her life began on Thursday, February 14, 1946, when she was born to the late Clarence and Virginia (Rairdon) Hamblen.

Mrs. Baker worked for Eswell Bakery and Newberry’s, both in Martinsville. She retired from the MSD of Martinsville after working in the cafeterias at West Middle, East Middle and Martinsville High School.

Dee was a graduate of Martinsville High School. She enjoyed watching her husband and son race cars, time shared with her grandchildren and gardening.

She married Donald Lee Baker; he preceded her in death on August 23, 2015. She leaves behind her children, Jeffrey Baker (wife, Debbie) of Morgantown, Indiana and Donna Salamander of Franklin, Indiana; brothers, Steve Hamblen (wife, Lavern) and Darrell Hamblen (wife, Beth) all of Martinsville, Indiana; sisters, Jody Mathers and Teresa Vandagrifft of Martinsville, Indiana; grandchildren, Michael, Zach and Austin Baker and Kelsey and Kendra Salamander and great-grandchildren, Kaeshawn Clark and Eliah Jane and Azaiah Gene Salamander.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one infant son; one infant daughter; brothers, Roland Dale and Ronnie Hamblen; sisters, Sue Lucas and Nina Murray; brother-in-law, Gary Lucas and one great-grandchild.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, from 12:00-2:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center. A graveside service will begin Wednesday at 2:30 pm at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
