In Memory

Albert Hickey

Albert Paul Hickey, age 78 of Martinsville, passed from this life after years of failing health on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023, at 1:03 am at the IU Health Morgan Hospital ER with his family by his side. He was one of six children born to the late Paul Elijah and Amy Jane (Ashburn) Hickey. Albert was born in Baxter, Tennessee, on Tuesday, May 1, 1945.

At the age of eight, Albert’s family moved to Martinsville where he had lived for the past seventy years. He graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1964 and attended four years of trade school following graduation. On September 25th, 1965, Albert married his soulmate, Geraldine Lee (Hillman), in Martinsville. The two shared nearly fifty-eight years of marriage and were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Albert was a devoted family man with a fierce work ethic! He worked tirelessly for thirty-five years for the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades Local #47 as a commercial painter, retiring in 1993.

When his family could pull him away from working, Albert took pleasure in fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, following Big Ten basketball and football and cheering on the Indianapolis Colts…though his greatest pastime was spent with his family. He loved taking his family camping and boating and was sure to teach each of them how to filet a fish at a young age. Family get-togethers for holidays and birthdays were a priority and he was sure to always have a family card game, in which he always won! He was also known to have an extraordinary memory, even during his failing health. Albert never missed an opportunity to support his children or grandchildren in their extracurricular activities, jumping from one ball field to another, dance recitals, taekwondo or whatever their activity of choice.

He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends including his wife, Geri Hickey of Martinsville; son, Michael (wife, Rhonda) Hickey of Mooresville; daughters, Michelle Todd and Melanie (husband, Chris) Sheets both of Martinsville; brothers, Alva (wife, Juaneeta) Hickey of Indianapolis and Delmer (wife, Barbara) Hickey of Jasper, IN; sister, Mary Feeback of Martinsville; seven grandchildren, Brittany (husband, Derek) Gary, Ethan (wife, Christina) Minton, Tyler and Ryan Hickey, Patrick, Garret (wife, Sarah) and Elizabeth Sheets; and two great grandchildren, Cid Minton and Isla Gary.

Along with his parents, Albert was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah DeWeese and Joana Pfaff.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, June 10th, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. There will be no funeral service and he will be laid to rest following a private graveside service in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery, Martinsville.

Memories and condolences are encouraged to be shared with the Hickey family online at www.nealandsummers.com.
