Stephen L. Asher, 39, who grew up in Martinsville and was a friend to the Reporter staffers from childhood to manhood, was found dead about 11 o’clock Thursday, May1, 1986, in the Morgan Monroe Forestry.
Coroner Terry Weddle set death at about 5 a.m. and ruled the death a suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.
The son of Conrad and Violet Hodges Asher of Martinsville, he spent many hours at the newspaper office assisting his father, who was Reporter circulation manager many years. He was a native of this city and was born May 25, 1946.
Survivors besides his parents include his wife, the former Dyan Lynn Tega, Noblesville; brother, Jim Asher of Martinsville.
Mr. Asher, of Noblesville, had recently lived in Washington Township. He was a member of the First Christian Church and Elks Lodge 1349 in Martinsville. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1964 and from Purdue University, Indianapolis branch.
A memorial service will cremation on Saturday, May at 2 p.m. at the Flanner and Buchannan Mortuary, 2505 West Creek Blvd., Indianapolis.
Locally, the Fogleman Funeral Home handled arrangements. There will be no calling hours.
