James L. Hopkins, 65

APRIL 9, 1946 — NOV. 21, 2011

MARTINSVILLE — James L. Hopkins, 65, Martinsville, passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 21, 2011, at his residence.

He was born on Tuesday, April 9, 1946, in Elwood, Indiana, to the late James L. and Mildred I. (Cook) Hopkins.

On April 12, 1969, he married Joan M. (Dyar) Hopkins, and she survives.

Jim was a retired computer programmer.  He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1964 and later received an Associates Degree in computer programming from Ivy Tech.  As a veteran of Vietnam he was a member of the American Legion Post #230.

Jim was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Martinsville.  In recent years, Jim discovered some Native American ancestry and became a member of the Running Buffalo Circle in Indiana and the Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky.

Other survivors include his daughter, Emily Pearcy and husband Eric of Bloomington; brothers, Walter E. Hopkins of Poland, Indiana, and Gregory E. Hopkins of Kentucky; and sister, Elaine Germann of Illinois.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Costin Funeral Chapel with Father John Hall officiating.  Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2011, at Costin Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral service.

Burial will be at the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Disabled American Veterans.
